At one point in his one-man show, he claimed that engineers are boring and that we would not talk to them. As a result, I wrote the following poem yesterday.
Some people think engineers are boring.
I heard it being said by two comedians.
Gad Elmalah said so yesterday in Chicago.
He added he did not want to talk to us.
I heard people laugh, but my wife and I did not.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus said it on the Tonight Show.
I did not like that, but she is entitled to her opinion.
Sometimes I am like a machine with a function.
I write algorithms to solve problems and replace workers
Sometimes, I walk in the city with no aim.
I am open to colors, sounds, and movements.
For 15 years I am in my car for two hours.
That is a total of 8.2 months which I spent on the road
And I have not met any other driver
Heading west on I-74 to Peoria at 6:40 am.
Sometimes, I feel like an algorithm that fails to run correctly.
I leave work early, and my supervisor does not say anything.
I avoid the 4:00 pm traffic and stop at the rest area to take a nap.
Three times a week, I play pick-up soccer with non-engineers.
We kick the ball, laugh, and joke for two hours.
When I score a goal, I do my little middle-eastern dance.
