I happen to find an incredible female dancer who definitely excels at dancing a very rhythmic Algerian song. She skillfully moves every part of her slender body while keeping a beautiful smile on her charming face. Hilde Lund lives in Norway and her dance shows are available on YouTube. Her website is www.magdans.no. Enjoy the Rimitti ridim dance and the Takfararinas song "zama zama" If you do not know French grammar, the grammatical mistake is the verb TUER, which should have conjugated. The correct form of the sentence Omar m'a tuer (Omar killed me) is Omar m'a tué (notice the e with the acute accent.) I saw this film poster in downtown Algiers in December 2013, and I thought there was a grammatical mistake. I approached a person at the entrance of the movie theater and I asked him about the mistake. "Do you think the producer would have allowed such a mistake?" he said. "Maybe not," I answered. So the grammatical error in the title is not an error because the sentence was found written on the door in the house where an old lady was murdered in 1991. Omar was the old lady's gardener, and the sentence was enough to convict him of the murder and sentenced for 18 years in 1994. The movie is about racism as much as ethnic profiling in the West. It is about the murder of a rich widow, and whom else can be accused but her gardener who is a immigrant from Morocco. No Waste Reduction IncentiveOn March 3, the Bloomington Public Works in Bloomington, Illinois deployed a new cart system for garbage pick-up. It is new because new trucks have been designed to pick up the carts when these are placed at the edge of a resident's drive way. The residents are given three choices for wheeled cart sizes: 35, 60, and 95 gallons. Their respective monthly garbage fee, which is charged through the monthly city utility bill, are: $16, $18, and $20. In its garbage collection flyer the city claims to charge the price based on use. However, if we assume an equal density across residential garbage, the above rates per gallon is $0.46, $0.28, and $0.21, clearly indicating that the resident who creates the least amount of garbage pays more than twice the rate of the resident who creates the highest amount of garbage. Given that the city has studies the city's solid waste services and that the city pays by the ton t dispose of the garbage, the fee system should also have been replaced by one that is weight-based or volume-based and that will not penalize the residents who have reduced their garbage output.
Pay-As-You-Throw SystemI am not sure why the city has not chosen the pay-as-you-go and volume- and weight-based programs. These systems have been well-understood by residents of many communities and they are perceived them as fair. A snapshot of communities who has adopted these systems can be found at PAYT programs The Bloomington, IL implementation of the new garbage system definitely does not meet the needs of its residents. It falls short of the requirements of a good green city.
I am still reading a book titled "Generosity: An Enhancement" by Richard Powers, a resident of Illinois. A friend of mine suggested I read it because he sees me in it. The main female character is Thassadit Amzwar, a Kabyle woman who fled Algeria and lives in Chicago when she is enrolled in a writing class. Her name should have transcribed as Tassadit and Tassa. While reading, I found out that the other has indeed researched Algeria because he does a great job at summarizing the events that Algeria has seen in the last 30 years: From fundamentalists, to Kabylia, Matoub, and Massinissa Guermah. Tassadit explains her name, refers to Saint-Augustine of Hippo, and explains her father’s refusal of religion. At some point, Tassa (short for Tassadit) brings a homemade cake to the class and they all enjoyed. For those who are wondering what the honey-soaked pastry made with clouds of semolina and eggs looks like, here are a few pictures below. Although the name was incorrectly transcribed as Timechepoucht, it should in my opinion be timeshewisht as there is no “P” sound in it and the "ch" should be "sh" because it is the English sound “sh” and not French “ch” one. |
