A Grammatical Error and a Murder

3/23/2014

Picture
If you do not know French grammar, the grammatical mistake is the verb TUER, which should have conjugated.  The correct form of the sentence Omar m'a tuer (Omar killed me) is Omar m'a tué  (notice the  e with the acute accent.)
I saw this film poster in downtown Algiers in December 2013, and I thought there was a grammatical mistake. I approached a person at the entrance of the movie theater and I asked him about the mistake.
"Do you think the producer would have allowed such a mistake?" he said.
"Maybe not," I answered.
So the grammatical error in the title is not an error because the sentence was found written on the door in the house where an old lady was murdered in 1991.
Omar was the old lady's gardener, and the sentence was enough to convict him of the murder and sentenced for 18 years in 1994.

The movie is about racism as much as ethnic profiling in the West.  It is about the murder of a rich widow, and whom else can be accused  but her gardener who is a immigrant from Morocco.

Andrew Warren Sentenced

6/2/2012

The former CIA chief Station in Algeria, Andrew Warren, was sentenced for five years in prison for raping two Algerian women in Algeria.

The news media painted him as a rogue agent who used XANAX and Valium, which are drugs used in common date-rape assaults.

More can be read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Warren

A Western Tool

9/30/2011

Yesterday, Interpol, which is the International Police, has asked for the arrest of Saadi Qaddafi, the second son of fallen Libyan leader Muammer Qaddafi.

I won't question this request, except that another faller leader, Ben Ali of Tunisia, is doing well in Saudia Arabia and enjoying his safety.

I almost forgot that Saudi Arabia is a good friend of the West (Europe and the United States) and Interpol is a Western tool.

Is this another case of double standards?

Tunisia: Comparison of Reports

1/7/2011

I woke up this morning and wanted to compare two reports on the recent events in Tunisia. One is an article by Reuters available at
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110107/wl_nm/us_tunisia_protests_clinton_1

If the same demonstration were to happen in Iran, the entire US media would have shown the images of the young person who immolated himself. It would take the opportunity to show the unpopularity of the Iranian government, its repressive policies, and its undemocratic tactics.

Unfortunately, the events did not happen in Tehran. They happen in Tunisia and the US media does not want to show Muslim people demonstrating peacefully against the Tunisian President Ben Ali, who, as you might have guessed, is a good friend of the European Union and the US.

To know about the events in Tunisia, one must turn to Al-Jaseera and read one of its report http://english.aljazeera.net/indepth/opinion/2011/01/201113102452251132.html

I say that I prefer Al-Jaseera's report because it does not shy at pointing out Ben Ali's politics of corruption, authoritarianism, and repression

Algeria, Wiki Leaks, CIA, Bouteflika

12/6/2010

The US has found another “important country fighting al-Qaida in the Maghreb region.”  Well, excuse me, Mr. Boutetflika, why were you surprised that many of the terrorists you granted amnesty rejoined al-Qaida?

That is one of the few information that transpired from the newspapers’ publication of the recent Wiki leaks release of the cables of the US embassies around the world.

Few leaked cables can be found at the Guardian newspaper.

It is again sad to see America befriend and weave strong ties with another repressive and military regime in Algeria. And I have written about the Algerian government’s amnesty for the terrorists and security forces in the past.

The other cable that got my interest is the one that mentioned Andrew Warren, the former rising CIA star who was recalled from Algeria in October 2008 and was fired after two Algerian women accused him of raping them after he drugged them. He was the station chief in Algeria. He spoke fluent Arabic and claimed to have converted to Islam.

At his June 8 court date, he faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a lifetime of supervised release. He also will be required to register as a sex offender for at least 25 years.

The federal judge in the case set the sentencing for Sept 9.  I tried to find out what has been the sentence and have not found any news about it as of December 6.

Has Mr. Andrew Warren disappeared from the face of the earth and has the CIA being involved in his disappearance- they’ve got experience. I would not blame them. He has damaged the CIA’s relationships with Algerians.

I also read a “funny” comment about Algeria on the internet. In her blog of June 8, 2010, the beautiful and blond right-wing commentator, Debbie Schlussel, called Algeria, an Arabian Terroristan.

Mr. Schlussel raises the question about Andrew Warren being a Muslim. Excuse, me. Who is stupid to believe a CIA agent’s claim to be Muslim? If he were a good Muslim, he would not drink alcohol and invited other women to his house.

Now back to Wiki leaks. According to a reported US cable, American diplomats acknowledged the role of the Algerian government in suppressing the local press from reporting on the Andrew Warren scandal.  The story, which was reported for two days, suddenly disappeared in the government press outlets.

I have mistakenly believed that Algerian newspapers were free to report on anything they wanted.
